Active Shooter Response Instructor’s Course

This 32-hour course will provide the student with the knowledge and ability to instruct his or her agency personnel in the history, tactics and concepts necessary for law enforcement personnel responding to active shooter, rapid intervention critical incidents. Topics will include history, applicable tactics, instructor and scenario development, range drills, legal aspects and incident management issues. Two days of classroom will be followed by one day of practical application and one day on the range. Students will be required to demonstrate their proficiency with the firearm in active shooter related drills, as an instructor during class presentations, and successfully pass a written test. Diversionary Device Instructor’s Course

This two day comprehensive course will develop students as agency instructors in the use of diversionary devices. It is only open to tactical team personnel designated by their agency as diversionary device instructors. Topics of instruction include history & physics of diversionary devices, types of devices, general characteristics, effects on the human body, pre-deployment concerns, criteria for use, proper deployment techniques, tactical considerations, liability concerns, rendering safe, reloading, documentation, instructional techniques and other related topics. Students will be required to prepare a short lesson plan and demonstrate the ability to instruct others within a classroom setting. Course includes history & physics, types of devices, general characteristics, effects on the human body, pre-deployment concerns, criteria for use, proper deployment techniques, tactical considerations, liability concerns, rendering safe, reloading, documentation, instructional techniques and other topics. Tuition: $275 ($250 for students with current CATO membership. Please notify us at the time of registration if you are requesting this discount.) California POST Plan IV. 1076-21920-16003. Per POST Bulletin 2017-01 reimbursement is still in effect for this program.     

Firearms/Tactical Rifle (Patrol Rifle) Operator’s Course
Date: June 26-29 2017 (16 hours)
This intensive, 4 day, 40-hour course will provide the student with the knowledge and ability to effectively use and instruct others in the handling of patrol rifles such as the M-16/AR-15 family. It complies with the requirements of 3320 PC (short barrel rifle training) and is specifically structured for law enforcement personnel who are assigned (or will be assigned) responsibility for instructing and maintaining a Department’s patrol rifle program as well as incorporating the patrol rifle and other similar weapons into active shooter/rapid deployment training and response to actual ongoing incidents. Students will be required to demonstrate both their proficiency with the rifle and as an instructor during class presentations, and successfully pass a written test. This course is physically and mentally demanding and students should be prepared for the challenges involved. A comprehensive manual will be provided to each student. POST Control #1076-32112-16004 , Plan IV. NOTE: Due to its certification, this course meets the requirements of POST’s 1070 regulation. It is Plan IV reimbursable even though POST has suspended financial support for other courses. Upon request, agencies may defer tuition payment until after July 1, 2017 with the start of the new fiscal year.

This intensive, 16-hour course will provide the student with the knowledge and ability to effectively use these weapons for both patrol & tactical applications. It is specifically structured for law enforcement personnel who are assigned (or will be assigned) responsibility for proper use of weapons such as the H&K MP-5 and AR-15/M-16/M-4. Students must pass a written test and a qualification course of fire to successfully complete the program.
